Webtrees handles the gedcom standard so import / export with other software is possible. Webtrees allows for multi user collaboration and you can set the level of access for each user. There isn't an official docker image but there are a few 3rd party images that stay up to date that are quick enough to spin up if you're familiar with docker. I use a separate photo gallery (pigallery2) and put videos in youtube

Some really keen users use it in conjunction with a blog for publishing stories. There are extensions that let you add functionality not found in the base program. Webtrees is as close as you will get to a self hosted web based family tree. Is there any good single solution that would apply for this? I have the capability of setting up a system and backing it up, but I'm not capable of making a platform from scratch. I am the first real IT person in either family and realize that if I wait 5 or 10 years to start on this then I could miss out on a lot of valuable family history (especially on my dad's side). Ideally I could make user accounts to let family fill in the blanks that we can all share. And get to see their grandpa or great grandpa they never met talk about it, because those were important stories to them/us and we want to make that connection with our descendants, or great grandma's story about buying an original El Camino in an emergency that rusts in a barn to this day. Some day I would like to be able to show my kid/grandkids my dad's stories about a relic my great uncle found from the revolutionary war (and who has/sold it), or a story about my grandpa's arrow head collection, or whatever else. My dad has stories about family heirlooms that I would like to record and have videos or audio available for future generations, and my wife's family has an extensive family tree mapped through various booklets that could be consolidated through a website. I would like a family tree, but also family heirlooms and items associated with those family members. I'm looking for a solution that allows me to host a web based genealogy and story database. I've looked into this a couple of times, but this particular topic doesn't seem to garner much attention.
